Did you Observe Medical Emergencies Occur While Meetings Continued On?
by flipper ini've thought a lot about this over the years .
bonafide's thread reminded me of this and how unethical and insensitive it was for jehovah's witnesses meetings to go on without stopping while some rank and file members were having medical emergencies right in the kingdom hall.
my experience i will never forget.. in 1983 i was among some pioneers who were giving experiences at a circuit assembly in front of a crowd of about 2,000. this 83 year old sister was standing at the microphone and when she got done with her part - she sat next to me in her chair on the stage.

Got to love an organization that views dropping one's wife off for emergency medical care as if it were a 5 minute transaction at a McDonald's drive-thru. I would have loved to have seen the ER workers' faces when they see a well dressed man wave off his wife in critical condition and hurry back to the car. They were probably like "Hey, it's OK if you come with us and wait outside the room". "No, sorry, I have to give a talk at the Kingdom Hall. I'm already late and inconveniencing them as it is. My wife would have wanted me to give the talk!"
The Lloyd Berry case is just disturbing. I'd be surprised if anyone other than his wife accompanied him to the hospital. Even more strange would be seeing a guy just hop on the stage not missing a beat as if Lloyd ate some Tex-Mex earlier and just had a sudden attack of diarrhea. He probably would have made a point in coming back in if he were revived and against doctors' orders just to make his point. It just goes to show you if they have such disregard for a well respected and longtime leader of theirs, you don't even want to know how they feel about you. If they had to choose between your life or a few hundred dollars, they'll take the money. Jehovah would have wanted it that way, and besides, he'll resurrect you. But only if you put in at least 10 hours last month.

Kingdom Hall remodel - scam
by Dagney ini was wondering from any here in the know, does it seem like there is a lot of "remodels" going on?.
in the last week i had the occasion to talk with two jw's in different halls, about 10 miles apart.
they both are undergoing major remodels.

That's the problem. Virtually no one dares to question these expenses, and the ones that do are labelled as troublesome. I remember all the letters from the Society about donating to the worldwide or KH fund, and they would simply ask if there was any motions and seconders, and finally any "nay" votes. Out congregation would get charged this every month and then the poor sap who did the accounts had to go up every month and tell us we had a huge deficit. Welcome to the machine indeed!

Cult leader is a pretty strong and loaded word, don't you think? If Jesus were more of a cult leader in the modern sense, he would have taken his followers down with him.

You may be on to something here. While most of my JW Facebook friends are still on it and some are even active, I've noticed that a few have disappeared. I know they didn't defriend me because I can't find them anywhere on Facebook when I log out.

In a car group one day, the subject somehow got to the question of if you had to die, what would you prefer to be doing at the time? Without exception the answers were "going door to door" or in the KH. I detected a somewhat distorted viewpoint that somehow being at the KH or in service would somehow help your standing with Jehovah. When it came time for my answer I told them where I was didn't matter, but rather that trained and qualified people were attending to me and trying to save my life. This struck them the wrong way, and the subject was quickly dropped.
I think that the decision as to whether or not to continue the service should be on a case-by-case basis. In an Assembly Hall where thousands are assembled and have likely already made plans and hotel reservations, there should be no need to cancel the entire thing. However, I heard that GB member Lloyd Berry had a heart attack at a convention in Hawaii while giving a talk. He died shortly after. After they hauled him off the stage, someone else got up there and picked up where he left off, using his notes. Now that is disrespect. At very least they should have called for an impromtu intermission and let people collect their thoughts. If the show was to go on, they should have made a short announcement as to Berry's condition and possibly a prayer before going into the next scheduled speaker.
With KH's, they are more intimate settings. Everyone knows the person well, and their thoughts are with this person and not on the scheduled program. For this reason, it's probably just best to conclude with a prayer and a few comments and wishes for the victim. Instead there's this mentality that Jehovah would want the program to go on, and by continuing the talk as if nothing happened would be the best witness possible for this person.

I don't know about any of you, but it just makes me sick to think of how many people ended up following this man and his successors, putting off marriage and children until after Armageddon only to die alone and penniless. I know people who were young and full of promise. Now they are either pioneer spinsters or childless and unhappy couples.

I was at Roger's show in Portland that later was featured on his "In the Flesh" live DVD and CDs. This was toward the beginning of the tour when Roger came out of nowhere after being quiet for so long. People still didn't know who the hell he was. He came out with "In the Flesh?" to begin, and played several numbers from Amused to Death for the first time. The crowd was totally into it. Soon after, word spread about who he was and now all his shows sell out. I almost wish the word didn't get out, because I got a ticket late into the game and it was cheap. But hey... he wrote the damn songs, so it makes sense that he gets paid for it. Unfortunately, it looks like he wont release any more solo albums. And he's strongly hinted that this current tour might be his last.

It's all about pressure and guilt trips. The Service Dept pressures the COs, the COs pressure the local elders, and the elders apply it to you. If they don't have the numbers they want, they resort to passing out applications and constantly reminding people from the platform that there's still time to apply. It never worked with me. I saw through what they were doing and thought "what nerve?!"

Don't tempt me, mang. I've already bought the Wall LP twice on eBay. Nothing sounds quite like the original vinyl!
